Terms of Service

Alberta.io brings together public information about Alberta (news headlines, weather, wait times, air quality, wildfires, roads, energy, elections and the legislature) for general information. It is free to use. Some features, like the morning brief and alerts, need a free account. Optional paid memberships (Supporter and Pro) are described below.

• Information can be delayed, incomplete or wrong. Always check the original source before you rely on it.
• Alerts are not an emergency warning system. They are checked periodically, can arrive late or not at all, and depend on outside data feeds. Follow Alberta Emergency Alert, official evacuation orders and local authorities. In an emergency call 911.
• Emergency department wait times are estimates published by Alberta Health Services. If you need medical care, call 911 or Health Link at 811; do not delay care because of a wait time shown here.
• Nothing on Alberta.io is legal, medical, financial or investment advice.

Some summaries (“briefs”) are written by AI models from the news reports and public data linked on each brief, then checked automatically against those sources before publication. They can still contain mistakes. Each brief lists its sources so you can check it, and you can suggest a correction from any page. We fix confirmed errors. Bill summaries on the legislative tracker are written by AI from the bill text published by the Legislative Assembly and checked against it; the bill itself is the authority.

• Data from governments, agencies, publishers and other sources belongs to them. Each page that uses outside data names its sources, and their terms apply.
• News items are headlines and links to the original publisher. Read the full story on the publisher’s site.
• Map data © OpenStreetMap contributors, available under the Open Database License.
• You may use the downloads on /data and our RSS feeds for any lawful purpose if you credit “Alberta.io” and the original source, and follow the source’s terms.
• Apart from /data and the RSS feeds, do not scrape or bulk-download the site or overload it with automated requests.

• Supporter and Pro are subscriptions billed monthly or yearly in Canadian dollars, plus any applicable tax, through our payment processor, Stripe. Prices are shown on the pricing page before you pay.
• Subscriptions renew automatically at the end of each period until you cancel. Cancel any time from Manage billing on your membership page; your plan stays on until the end of the period you paid for, and you will not be charged again.
• Payments are not refundable for partial periods, except where the law requires a refund. If something went wrong, contact us and we will look at it.
• If we change a price, we will email you at least 30 days before it applies to your next renewal, and you can cancel before then.
• If a payment fails, we may pause paid features until it is resolved. Pro alerts, Slack and Teams posts and API access stop when a plan ends; your free features continue.
• We may offer complimentary plans, for example to newsrooms or students, which can have an end date.

• API keys are for you or your organization. Keep them private, and revoke a key from your membership page if it is exposed.
• Stay within the daily request limit shown on /data. We may slow or block keys that harm the service.
• Credit “Alberta.io” and the original source, as with the free downloads, and follow each source’s terms. Do not resell Alberta.io data as a competing feed.
• We may change or retire API endpoints; we will give Pro members notice of breaking changes where we can.

Pages and emails for signed-out and free readers may include one line from a sponsor, labelled “Sponsor”. Members do not see them. Sponsors do not choose or review what Alberta.io covers. We do not accept political advertising. See the sponsorship policy.

• Give a real email address you control, and keep your password secure. You are responsible for activity on your account.
• One person per account. Do not create accounts by automated means.
• We may suspend or close accounts used for abuse, spam or anything that breaks these terms.

When you send a correction or tip you confirm it is accurate to the best of your knowledge and that you have the right to share it. You let us use it to check and correct Alberta.io. We will not publish your name or email without your permission. Do not send anything unlawful, defamatory, harassing or confidential that you are not entitled to share.

Employers who post jobs on Alberta.io must follow the job posting rules, and confirm that each posting is accurate and that they are entitled to post it for the employer named. Every posting is reviewed before it goes live, but we do not vet employers or guarantee any job: applicants should confirm details with the employer and never pay to apply. We may decline or remove any posting at any time.

Do not use Alberta.io to break the law, harass or impersonate anyone, interfere with the service or its security, get around bot checks or rate limits, or send spam through any form.

The Alberta.io name, design, software and original content (including briefs and compiled datasets, apart from the underlying third-party data) belong to Avenue.io Inc.

Alberta.io is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, including accuracy, completeness or availability. To the fullest extent the law allows, Avenue.io Inc. and its directors, employees and suppliers are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or any loss arising from your use of, or reliance on, Alberta.io, including any alert that is late or not sent.

We may update these terms. We will change the date above and, for significant changes, tell account holders by email. Continuing to use Alberta.io after a change means you accept it.
