Privacy Policy

• Account details. Your email address and password (stored hashed by our authentication provider), plus anything you add to your profile: display name, bio, location and preferred city.
• Email preferences. Whether you get the morning brief, which city it covers, and your “Send me Alberta.io emails” setting.
• Alerts. The alerts you set up (for example an ER site and wait threshold, a city and radius, a highway or a bill) and a record of which alerts were sent and when.
• Corrections and tips. Your message, the page you sent it from, and a reply email if you give one. To limit spam we keep a one-way hash of your IP address with the report; we do not keep the IP address itself.
• Riding lookup. A postal code, street address or (only if you choose “Use my location”) your device location. We use it once to find your electoral district and do not store it.
• Usage and device information. Pages viewed, links clicked, browser and device type, and approximate location from your IP address, collected through Google Analytics and our hosting provider’s request logs.
• Membership and payments. If you join as a Supporter or Pro member, Stripe collects your card and billing details. We never see or store your card number. We keep your Stripe customer ID, your plan, its status and renewal date, and whether you cancelled.
• Pro tools. The Slack or Teams webhook addresses you connect, your API key names (we store only a one-way hash of each key), daily API request counts, and whether you get the Monday briefing.
• Sponsor links. When a sponsor line is shown or clicked, on a page or in an email, we add one to a daily total. The count is not linked to you, and sponsors never receive your name or email address.
• Contact form. Your name, email, subject and message, delivered to us by email.

• To run your account and send the emails you ask for: account emails (such as verification and password resets), the morning brief and your alerts.
• To take payment for memberships, keep billing records, and turn paid features on and off.
• To post your alerts to the Slack or Teams channel you connect, and to apply API limits.
• To review corrections and tips, fix errors and reply if you asked us to.
• To keep the service secure and stop abuse, including bot checks and rate limits.
• To understand which pages and features are used, so we can improve them.

We send the morning brief and alerts only to registered users with a verified email address, and only while email is switched on in your settings.

• Sign-in cookies keep you logged in.
• albertaio_city remembers the city you chose on the homepage for up to a year. Choosing “Alberta overview” clears it.
• Google Analytics cookies measure visits.
• Cloudflare Turnstile may set a cookie while checking that a sign-up, login or form submission comes from a person.

You can block or delete cookies in your browser. Signing in needs cookies to work.

These companies process personal information for us, only to provide their service:

• Supabase: database and account authentication.
• Vercel: website hosting and request logs.
• Resend: sending email.
• Stripe: membership payments, billing and receipts.
• Slack or Microsoft: only if you connect a channel, they receive the alerts we post there.
• Google Analytics: usage measurement.
• Cloudflare Turnstile: bot checks on sign-up, login, password reset and forms.
• Open North (Represent), OpenStreetMap Nominatim and MapTiler: turning a postal code or address into a map point for the riding lookup.
• OpenStreetMap tile servers: map images load from them, so they receive your IP address and the area you view.

Some providers store or process data outside Canada, including in the United States, where it may be accessible to authorities under local law. Our AI-written briefs are generated from public news and public data; we do not send your personal information to AI model providers.

We keep account information while your account is open. Alert and email delivery records are kept while your account is open so we do not send duplicates. Corrections and tips are kept as a record of what we changed. Billing records are kept for as long as Canadian tax law requires (generally six years), even after a membership ends. When you close your account we delete your profile, brief subscription and alerts, except where we need to keep something to meet a legal obligation or resolve a dispute.

• Change your profile, email address or password in your account.
• Turn the brief off from the homepage, turn alerts off on Alerts, or stop all Alberta.io emails in Security & email. Every brief and alert email also has an unsubscribe link.
• Ask us for a copy of your personal information, to correct it, or to close your account and delete it, by emailing privacy@avenue.io.
• If you are not satisfied with our response, you can contact the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner of Alberta.

We use encrypted connections, access controls and our providers’ security measures to protect personal information. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

Alberta.io is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their personal information.
