Alberta.io summarizes and maps first-party open data. Always use the agency links below for evacuations, area restrictions, and official guidance.

1. 1. Alberta Wildfire — active fires and control status

   Provincial and municipal active-fire points and Alberta operational counts come from the Government of Alberta wildfire map service and status program.

2. 2. BC Wildfire Service — upwind smoke context

   Active BC fire points (purple on the map) are from the BC Wildfire Service public active-fires layer. They are shown because BC smoke often drifts east into Alberta; they are not Alberta operational counts.

3. 3. Environment Canada — Air Quality Health Index (AQHI)

   City AQHI readings use Environment Canada / MSC GeoMet realtime observations (prairies stations). Health guidance follows the national AQHI bands.

4. 4. Open-Meteo — modelled PM2.5 / PM10 (context only)

   Fine particle estimates (PM2.5 = smaller smoke-related particles; PM10 = coarser dust/smoke mix) are shown in µg/m³ (micrograms per cubic metre). Values are modelled Open-Meteo estimates for smoke context, not regulatory lab measurements.

5. 5. Base map tiles

   Map basemap tiles are © OpenStreetMap contributors and © CARTO, used via Carto light basemaps.
