The Story
Alberta.io was built by Ben Arledge, a proud Albertan who wanted a single place to see everything happening in the province he loves.
Growing up in Alberta, Ben developed a deep appreciation for the province's rugged beauty, from the Rocky Mountains to the vast prairies, from the northern boreal forests to the badlands of Drumheller. But more than the landscapes, it's the people and communities that make Alberta special.
As a father and family man, Ben understands the importance of staying informed about the things that matter: knowing the road conditions before a family trip to the mountains, checking ER wait times when a kid gets sick, or keeping up with what's happening in local politics and communities across the province.
That's why he built Alberta.io, a real-time dashboard that brings together all the information Albertans need in one place. No more jumping between government websites, weather apps, and news sources. Just the data you need, updated continuously, presented clearly.
Building Things That Matter
Alberta.io is not Ben's first venture into building tools that help people. He is also the founder of Careit, a food donation and rescue platform that connects businesses with surplus food to local charities and people in need. Careit helps reduce food waste while fighting hunger in communities across Canada.
Whether it's rescuing food from going to waste or helping Albertans stay informed about their province, Ben is driven by the same motivation: building technology that genuinely improves people's lives.

Alberta.io aggregates data from official government sources including Environment Canada, Alberta 511, Alberta Health Services, the Alberta Electric System Operator (AESO), and municipal open data portals. News is gathered from trusted Alberta publications including CBC, Global News, and local newspapers in Red Deer, Lethbridge, Medicine Hat, Fort McMurray, and Grande Prairie.
