Watch Party | Speakers for the Dead
Thu, Nov 5 · 6:30 p.m.–8:30 p.m.
Forsyth Hall (Downtown Library - 5 St. Anne Street)
Join us for a screening of Speakers for the Dead, a powerful documentary that uncovers a little-known chapter of Black history in Canada. In rural Ontario in the 1930s, the tombstones of a Black cemetery were buried to make way for a potato field. Decades later, descendants of the original Black and White settlers came together to restore the cemetery, bringing long-buried histories and painful racial tensions to the surface. After the film, stay for a conversation with Community Development Coordinator from the City of St. Albert, Abdulmajid Jimale and Anti-Racism Educator Toni Harrison, who together will explore the film’s themes and more. Presented in partnership with the City of St. Albert, St. Albert Public Library, Africans & African Descendant Friendship Club of St. Albert, and the National Film Board of Canada. Runtime: 49 min
Listed from St. Albert Public Library. Always confirm times and tickets with the organizer.
