Elaine Cameron-Weir: Artist Talk at the Red Deer Museum + Art Gallery
Sat, Nov 7 · 2:00 p.m.–4:30 p.m.
Red Deer Museum & Art Gallery · 4501 47A AV
Presented in partnership with the National Gallery of Canada through their National Engagement initiative. The National Gallery of Canada’s National Engagement initiative is generously supported by Michael Nesbitt, with additional funding from the National Gallery of Canada Foundation. Elaine Cameron-Weir's practice explores the systems humans use to navigate the unknown, including science, religion, governance, and creative fields. Her sculptures transform objects from scientific, medical, military, and spiritual contexts into reliquary-like forms that symbolize broader belief systems and power structures. By combining found materials with handcrafted ones—such as enamel, glass, metal, and leather—her installations often appear suspended, balanced by cables and architectural frameworks. These works incorporate transient elements such as heat, light, and scent, hinting at transformation and decay, while symmetrical shapes highlight dualities in perception and storytel
