Registered Nurse
Your Opportunity:
Join the healthcare team at Calgary Remand Centre (CRC), a maximum-security correctional facility serving a patient population of over 600. With frequent admissions, transfers, court appearances, releases, and evolving healthcare needs, this is a fast-paced environment where no two shifts are the same. As a Registered Nurse, you will provide care to patients with complex medical, mental health, and substance use needs. Responsibilities include intake assessments, triage, medication administration, chronic disease management, withdrawal management, mental health care, discharge planning, and emergency response. Nurses practice with a high degree of autonomy and are expected to exercise strong assessment, prioritization, and clinical decision-making skills. Shifts may involve responding to medical emergencies and code responses, stabilizing acutely ill patients, administering medications to a large patient population, managing opioid and alcohol withdrawal, addressing mental health crises, and providing IV therapy and wound care. Assignments may include intake, clinic, general population healthcare, mental health and observation units, or healthcare units. Nurses work closely with Correctional Services staff while maintaining patient privacy and confidentiality. Documentation is completed in Connect Care (Epic) and care is delivered collaboratively with physicians, dentistry, nurse practitioners, psychiatry, psychology, pharmacy, addictions, OAT coordinators, STI partners, and social work. This position is ideal for nurses who thrive in high-acuity environments and enjoy autonomous practice, emergency response, mental health, addictions, and complex patient care.
