CTS Bridging Student
Edmonton Catholic Schools offers Career and Technology Studies (CTS) programming at all high school sites. We are now accepting applications from certified journeypersons from various trades who wish to transition to a career as a CTS teacher through the Alberta Bridge-to-Teacher Certification Program. Successful candidates will be sponsored by ECSD and will receive financial support as they complete an Alberta teacher preparation program at the University of Alberta. They will then be authorized to work as CTS teachers while completing the requirements to earn a Bachelor of Education degree. Previous work experience will be evaluated for the purpose of salary placement. We welcome applications from journeypersons who are certified in any Alberta-designated trade.
The successful candidate will:
-
Commit to completing the CTS Bridging Program courses, confirm commitment to sponsorship by ECSD, and commit to employment as a teacher with ECSD should a position be available
-
Apply for and meet admission requirements for the Bachelor of Education program at the designated post-secondary institution
-
Successfully complete required teacher preparation courses consisting of a minimum of 36 semester-hour credits (available only at the University of Alberta)
-
Upon completion of the CTS Bridge-to-Teacher Program, apply to teacher certification (Alberta.ca/teacher-certification) for a Letter of Authority, and be eligible to be employed as a teacher while continuing to complete requisite coursework, at a minimum of 6 semester-hour credits each year, until successful completion of the Bachelor of Education degree
-
Work collaboratively with a school authority supervisor to demonstrate consistently that the CTS Bridging Program participant meets the competencies in the Teaching Quality Standard.
Interested candidates that possess a journeyperson certificate are encouraged to apply. The following application documents are required:
