Casual Educational Assistant

Edmonton Catholic Schools is accepting applications for casual Educational Assistant positions for day-to-day assignments in various schools/ sites throughout the Division. This is a casual position with no guaranteed hours. However, all casual hires are eligible to apply to internal temporary or permanent positions. The job works as part of a multi-disciplinary team to assist students in learning and developing skills in the areas of socialization, communication, and behavior. The job also provides general support in the classroom. Job Responsibilities:

• Assist the teacher with planning, preparing, and implementing programs to meet student needs
• Organize classroom materials, activities, equipment, and programs
• Assist the multi-disciplinary team with the implementation of developmental strategies
• Behaviour management
• Provide a range of personal and physical care
• Assist co-workers during peak periods and absences

Qualifications:

• High School diploma plus certificate/diploma in an area related to early childhood education or special needs education, plus one year directly related experience, or an equivalent combination of experience and qualifications
• Knowledge of intervention techniques and strategies, first aid, CPR, and administering medication
• Knowledge of Microsoft programs, including Word, Outlook, and the internet
• Ability to communicate with sensitivity, diplomacy, and tact is essential
• Ability to effectively communicate in the English language, both oral and written, with the ability to develop and maintain communication with students, teachers, and specialists
• Ability to travel to sites within Edmonton
• Fluency in French, Spanish, Ukrainian, or knowledge and understanding of the Cree language and culture, is an asset.
