Downtown Walking Tour: Parkvale at the MAG

Sat, Sep 26 · 1:00 p.m.–3:00 p.m.

Red Deer Museum & Art Gallery · 4525 47A AV

Guided walking tours of downtown Red Deer. Historic homes, original businesses, public art, and the stories behind the spots you pass by regularly. Most heritage walks show you the houses of people who could afford to be remembered. Parkvale is different. It was laid out in 1905 for working people, and the homes still standing there were built by the carpenters, railway workers, and shopkeepers who actually built Red Deer. This guided walk takes you through one of the city’s oldest residential areas, just east of the museum, and out through parts of Coronation Park and the Waskasoo neighbourhood. You will hear about the architecture, the families who lived in these houses, and what they were doing in the years when Red Deer was still deciding what kind of place it was going to be. In late September the whole route is usually under fall canopy, which does not hurt. This is the longest of our walking tours, roughly two hours at a steady pace with stops. The tour meets at the MAG fr
