Red Deer Arts Council is pleased to announce that the vibrant Artwalk summer festival is returning to downtown Red Deer for the first time in over a decade. On Saturday, Aug. 29, colourful market booths featuring locally created paintings, ceramics, textile arts and jewelry will line the site of the former Buffalo hotel at the corner of Ross Street and 51st Avenue. The 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. event will highlight original works by 26 Red Deer-area vendors, with musical entertainment provided by local musicians. The original Artwalk festival was started to allow artists and artisans to promote and sell products of their creativity. It ran for more than 26 years before ending in 2015. The remaining funds of over $25,000 from the festival were used to found the Red Deer Art Walk Developing Artist Award in 2018 which the council continues to award each year.
