At this no-cost workshop, you will learn how to manage daily challenges living with chronic pain. Ways to manage your pain Tips for healthy eating and becoming more active How to talk with your health care team Living a better quality of life Participant Materials: Each participant receives a FREE Chronic Pain textbook and supplemental handouts, which will be provided during your workshop series. How do I take part? Group members meet each week for 2.5 hours in-person at Strathcona Community Hospital (9000 Emerald Drive, Sherwood Park, T8H 0P5). Support persons are also welcome to join! Six-Week Workshop Outline Session 1: Introduces the concept of self-management and explores how small changes can make a big difference. Participants introduce themselves and go over distractions, getting a good nights sleep and begin setting weekly action plans to take control of their health. Session 2: Covers strategies to problem solving. Participants learn problem-solving techniques, pacing, and physical activity skills to better handle daily challenges. Session 3: Focuses on practical approaches to dealing with difficult emotions. Participants explore ways to make healthy eating choices and build more physical activity skills in staying active safely. Session 4: Teaches effective communication with healthcare providers, family, and friends. Participants also learn more about healthy eating, physical activity and dealing with depression. Session 5: Provides guidance on medication safety, making informed decisions, and evaluating treatment options. Participants are also introduced to body scans and time management.
